Great game! I enjoyed it. Will there be multiplayer in the future? Because I'd like to play this with my friends.

(1 edit) (+1)

Unfortunately not for this game since I currently don't have those skills! I'll learn how to make multiplayer games eventually though. People seemed to enjoy playing this game, so I'm taking what I learned here to make a new free game that captures what people liked about this. (i'd so much rather make new games for you guys to play than make little modifications to existing stuff!)

(+1)

for some reason this game forces me to walk diagonally

cant do shit to stop it it just wanders

Hi, there's some weird issues with Unity's input system on some devices. Just so I know, in case I can figure out a patch, are you using Mac, Windows, or Linux?

windows 10 is what im running and ive never had issues with unity

hi again. I may have fixed the issue in the latest update, but it may only fix it for some users, I can't be sure

This is The Best Game I Have Ever Seen In A While! Good Job Making That!

(+1)

found this game from fusionz! what on earth are the sources of the second and third 'monster' images? the 'slow, but silent' and 'ambushes quickly' ones. the second one especially just massively creeps me out, i can't even pinpoint why!

Hey there, for the second one, look up "Yoshie nextbot" and for the third look up "Pinhead nextbot"! you should be able to dive deeper into info with that

Excellent game, very good use of the mechanics. I wish you would release a next installment with more difficulty and nextbots

Hi Derndeff, can you please try adding your game to a different installer, like steam, etc... because for some reason if I try downloading the file on itch.io it says "Forbidden" or "Insufficient permissions" Thanks

This is the picture:

Is that screenshot from the itch app, or the website? I tested the Itch App on my machine and was surprised how smoothly it worked, it's a lot like Steam. Download App - itch.io If you have already tried both the app and a direct download from the website, it's definitely the security/permissions on your PC. : ( Unfortunately, making a Steam page for this game would cost $100, which I just don't have the budget for right now. I may upload my free games to Steam for people to enjoy in the future though, once I can afford it.

(1 edit) (+1)

Nevermind I fixed it :D Can't wait to play your game

Awesome! Enjoy!

most fun horror game i've played in a while. Will definitely record all the other stages. great work dev <3

(a like would be appreciated if you enjoy the vid)

Sadly my system score was 6 so i cant play this game

Even using the lightweight download?

never mind i have found the zip file cant wait to play your gam

(1 edit)

I have been searching for about 10 minutes trying to find the zip file and i couldnt find it this is my first time going on itch.io and this is the first game i want to get can you help me on how to get this game?

(+1)

Still working on beating the game but just wanted to say that esp for a free indie spook, this has lots of production quality and is actually scary! I have wanted a simple dedicated nextbot spook like this for a while now and this is it! also gg dev ! :)

(+1)

Thanks, I'm glad you like it!

yr welcome :)

(+1)

Hey! So your game tells me that it needs some system requirements to run, but i don't get any instructions on how to GET those requirements. Take your time responding! I know you that sometimes may be busy! Thanks Dern!

Hey there, are you referring to the little system check with the rubber duck at the beginning, or something else? I assume you're getting some other message when you start the game... are you running Windows, Mac, or Linux, and are you running the normal or lightweight version?

The main Windows requirement that I can think of that's a requirement for rendering is DirectX11

Hey again! Yes i'm talking about the rubber duck. And i'm running on normal Windows. The thing is that it never told me about DirectX11, so i got kinda lost trying to find out what it meant by ''requirements'', since i've never been told WHAT the game required. How do i get DirectX11 anyway?

Ah I see, so a potential reason you can't get past the system check is that the stress test is crashing the program, meaning your PC's CPU or GPU is too slow to run the game. If you were able to open the game, you probably have the correct DirectX stuff! Did you try downloading and running the lightweight version of the game yet? That would be my first test. I'll keep the wording more clear in future on the system check!

(+1)

I downloaded the lightweight version and it ran very smoothly! Sorry for wasting your time.. My  bad!

Not a waste of time lol, I just want to make sure people can enjoy my stuff! I'll definitely make future system check stuff be more informative, haha, I initially released the game without the lightweight build

(1 edit) (+1)

hey, having an issue where I'm always running sideway/or backwards

Are you running Mac? If so, there's a known compatibility issue between Unity's input system and Mac (on some OS versions). It's possible that installing the game through the itch app (read Mac install instructions on this page) could fix it, but I'm not super sure. : (

hey, no I'm not I'm using windows 10, I tried from the file and on itch.io but the problem persisted

That's actually the first I've heard of that happening on a non-Mac, interesting. If you have a laptop, could you comment below the make/model/year (if you know it) of your laptop? I'm not entirely sure what's causing the issue since it's a deeper issue within Unity, so I'm not sure how helpful I can be : (

I'm actually running on a desktop, no worries, I've just been fighting through it to play, still enjoy the game and appreciate you trying to help! cant wait for more

(+1)

took a bit to understand how to play, but i really enjoyed it (PLEASE WATCH 2ND GAME)

Thanks for playing! It definitely does take some time to figure out haha

(+1)

this might just be me, but whenever you skip the cutscene, I can never hear the baby Munci's call out for me, no matter where I am or what channel I am on. is this a bug or am I just not looking at the right places? (i checked near the all the tombstones and other places and scrolled around all the channels)

Hey there, which stage number are you skipping the intro for, and what build of the game did you download (windows/mac/linux, normal or lightweight?)

(+1)

i skipped for the first stage number and i downloaded the normal windows build

(1 edit)

I've definitely watched playthroughs of people who have skipped the intro in the first stage and found the muncies, and I've never had that bug before. It's possible you found a strange bug, but if it is a bug, it shouldn't exist it you restart the application.

They can be pretty quiet if you're at the wrong end of the map, I'd recommend getting the radio activated and try listening near the safe zone while turning slowly in different directions.

If it's still dead silent, you definitely have a haunted version of the game.  O_O

alright, they started talking now, sorry for the trouble

suggestion for the next update: custom maps, you can place the tombs where munci's sons and how many can  can spawn, what nextbots can spawn, you can place the safezone and chose the type of the map: small, medium and big andmabie day or night or the theme

(+1)

there are two bugs i that i want to talk about: for some reason the gates of the safe zone didn't open sometimes and i get stuck, the other bug is that when i start play the game i start to go left whitout even pressing the A key, then i deleted the game and reinstalled it and the bugs are still there, please fix they

so you must first find a buried munci inside the safe zone as a tutorial before you can leave. once you find the first one, being near the gate will open it. Are you using Mac? There are input issues between some Mac OS versions and Unity's input system. You could try using the itch app to install the game if you haven't already to see if that helps, but I'm not sure if it will : (

(3 edits) (+1)

i don't know how to play the game after I download it.

Edit: nvm i got it to work somehow

the music is creepy :/

i like ur videos, but how come you censor your gf's bad words but not urs? confusion 101

lol I've only censored my gf saying my real life name out loud

(+1)

Please make this into a full steam game, this idea is sick!

ikr

(+1)

This is awesome! Finally beat it. Keep up the good work
(+1)

I am continuously moving backwards, help.

Are you on Mac? if so, there are known compatibility issues with Unity's input system and some versions of MacOS. This is something I don't have a fix for unfortunately : ( There's some small chance that following the "Install Instructions" on this page and using the itch app to install the game could help, if the issue has to do with permission issues, but I'm not sure. It's worth trying

Watched the devlog video and I had to try it for myself! Can't wait to play this again!
(+1)

game gave me a really good scare, definitely gonna go back and play it again

super good video, anyone reading this should definitely watch it!

(+1)

Just came from you video and i have a problem: somehow i manage to pass the vibe check and make it onto the main menu, but after 20 seconds or so the game goes black and any thing i do crashes the game instantlly, i get you are a solo game dev and it's a pretty impressive game too, but can you tell what is causing this bug? Thanks in advance :)

(+1)

hmmm interesting... what is your score on the vibe check, and are you running the normal or lightweight version? also what operating system are you using (windows, Mac, Linux) and could you share your PC specs? You can email me at support@derndeff.com if you don't wanna post in the comments!

(1 edit) (+1)

Oopsie! my bad, i use a laptop and didn't realize there was a "lightweight" version, so thanks for pointing it out! it runs past the main menu and it runs at a solid 30 fps considering my computer is quite bad, so thank you!

EDIT: just had the time to try it out and it runs perfectly! sorry for bothering you heh.

(+1)

haha no problem, I think including a hint on startup of the regular version would help in the future so everyone knows that there's a lightweight version!

(+1)

Just out of curiosity: what makes the lightweight version, well, lighter? as far as i can tell from your video, there isn't a big difference from them. (but again, i tend to not notice details)

(+1)

so specifically, the original version uses Unity's High Definition Render Pipeline while the lightweight version uses the Universal Render Pipeline, which doesn't have as many features and is meant to work well on any platform. If you compare the two side-by-side, the difference is pretty big, especially when looking at the sky, the fog, and the areas that have lighting

(+2)

i always like a challenge in a horror game and this game definitely delivered. I decided to try to beat it without using the safe zone by jumping on top of obstacles and it was very fun. It was very tense when a nextbot is right behind you and you are just barely able to get on top of a grave or wall to make them lose you. i do suggest that you fix this glitch, because right now the walls are pretty much just safe zones that don't remove your radio.

I also really like how the safe zone actually works. You are completely safe, but you don't have your most important tool to know where the nextbots are, so you still feel vulnerable because you know you have to leave eventually.

overall it's just a great game with interesting mechanics and a great atmosphere :) (sorry that this was so long lol)

Hey, awesome video, I noticed you were also able to flip on the radio and look around during the end of each stage which is def not supposed to happen haha. I did test and fix the jumping on walls/grave issue at one point in development, but must have changed something to bring it back! I'll look into it haha, you completely cheated out the bots lol. Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!

so i just beat stage 5 without safe zone and i found another glitch. if you press play and then press another button while the screen is fading to black, the menu stays when the game starts. the first time it happened to me i got back into the main menu, but i didn't have my mouse and got softlocked. I didn't manage to recreate that on video though.

YOU NEED TO ADD MULTIPLAYER!

Awesome!!!

i only got 3 words for this game

i love it

nice game

Unique mechanics with some action, some spooks and those creepy nextbots - splendid!

The game got my attention through watching the devlog video, which was fun and interesting. I felt that the quality and overall experience for this would be over the top and it truly did not disappoint. Mechanics are fantastic, the nextbots are different and unique from each other, the map and the sense of dread throughout this entire runtime was amazing. Loved every detail.

Best of luck with the future developments. Sadly, games like this are not always popular and go on unnoticed, but I am sure that your work will not be forgotten. Cheers!

Thanks a bunch for checking it out! Always love reading your reviews!

hi

You Took The Next bot Concept To Another Level. I really Enjoyed This Masterpiece, Hats off! 5/5

Thanks! I'll be watching and taking notes on bugfixes : )

Overall the game is fine. I just faced one bug. :)

(+1)

This was amazing! Great job! Scared the crap out of me

Awesome playthrough! the last one you encountered does serve as the sort of "insta kill" you mentioned if you miss hearing it on the radio

(1 edit)

Thank you šŸ™šŸ½ I will definitely be listening for it next time! Iā€™m still shaking ing from that Jumpscare

(+1)

This game is awesome, im gonna upload a video in a second

I will share my opinions later but I found bug, sometime nextbots can enter the safe zone and kill us. :/

(1 edit)

Do you remember which one made it through the gate? Also, did it rattle the gate, go through the gate, and then kill you? Once the gate rattles, it *should* be impossible to die from the nextbot, so it must have ran through the gate without rattling? (I definitely have never seen that before)

(1 edit) (+1)

I beat the game and also the bugs are covered in my gameplay. video will be up tomorrow because it's too late 1:15AM. :D

Should I Mute the Music (KEVIN MACLEOD) During Cat Chase?

I'll add this to the game page, but all music is either no-attribution required, free music from Pixabay, or Kevin Macleod music, which is CC BY 4.0 and should be covered as long as you don't edit out the overlay that pops up on screen! You should be good to go, no muting of music required.

Stumbled upon this game and gave it a whirl. A truly horrifying yet funny experience to dog around on. My face was mangled this entire playthrough because I was intensely hoping to not get jump scared. Kudos!

(+1)

Thanks for playing!

(+1)

I found this game close to it's publishing and it instantly caught my eye and knew I had to play and record it. This is a well made nextbot horror game and had me on edge the whole time knowing that the nextbots were roaming the map and could jump scare me at any time. 10/10
(1 edit) (+1)

bro this is such a good video! I love your commentating and your little intermission, you definitely need to keep making videos my dude. Also, I added a brightness slider today since I figured it may be too dark for playthroughs haha. Thanks for being the first to post a comment and a video, it actually helps me a lot to see how people approach playing the game so I can tune it better!

(+1)

glad you enjoyed the video. This game is honestly so good and I know big youtubers will hop on this game
